People Magazine and Actress Lea Michele Go Unwoke Against Common Abortion Rights Themes
Calling it "His Baby" when referring to potential pregnancy.
Imagine my surprise when I saw People Magazine, of all sources, put this story headline out. (FAIR USE)
Notice the date. Just days before the SCOTUS draft decision concerning Roe v. Wade was leaked.
HIS Baby? While it is long past time for fathers to have equal rights in the lives of their children, this headline by People seems contrary to commonly vomited abortion rights reasoning.
“Her Body, Her Choice”
Well, if it’s “His Baby”, as the headline admits, then there is a problem with the singularity of “Her Body, Her Choice” rhetoric. “His Baby” in her body means he has rights in this transaction. This subsequently affects the rights of the baby as well.
If, as People and Lea Michele say, it’s “His Baby”, then where are HIS rights during the gestation and pregnancy phase? Isn’t it his sperm that contributed to this baby? Shouldn’t he have a right to weigh in on the protocol going forward concerning that child and it’s well-being? According to abortion rights activists, that answer would be a “No.” But I’d like to personally thank People for acknowledging the rights of the father by using the term “His Baby”.
“His Baby” personalizes this in a way that “fetus” cannot. There are actual people involved in this and they all deserve equal rights, according to the construct of “equal rights.” If you want equal rights, ladies, the men get those equal rights as well. And, while we’re tallying up interests, the baby has a say in this also, because it is a life.
So, YES. Yes it is His Baby as well. And if women don’t want to acknowledge that, then they should keep their fucking legs shut.
