It’s time to stop using the divisive, racist slur of “white”.
Until societal frameworks started saying that all whites are born with implicit racism, or white privilege is a part of being white, the label wasn’t something that carried ad hominem meanings minus the benefit of proper discussion or consideration.
The label of “white” has turned into an attack. It’s currently a racist slur. If someone is “white,”, there are all sorts of negative inferences that accompany this, and not only is it offensive, it’s harmful when someone is forced to assume a label without having the right to defend against it. That’s abusive.
Why is a disability advocate writing about this? Well, for almost two decades, as a man who has been labeled as “white”, I’ve had to walk a principled poverty path for much of it. The “privilege” that is vehemently assigned to me has eluded me, at least it appears that way to me. Saying this meets violent, repressive demands that I get back into the label created for me.
Now, some employers are advertising diversity hiring that excludes “white” people. Biden has spoken of programs that exclude “white” people. The list of anti-white rhetoric is not to be exhausted in this article.
It’s time to reverse this bullshit.
If you want a society that includes you, stop trying to exclude us.
Drop the label of “white” as the divisive, racist label it has become.
Use the inclusive language that you insist upon, and call us Beige Persons of Color.
I identify as a Beige Person of Color (Beige PoC) and I’m here to say: #BeigeLivesMatter.
