Today, I was on a Twitter space for a bit, and I heard someone who classifies themselves as a TERF- Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. Although she disclaimed having ever been raped, she claimed that because men are physically stronger, she feels oppressed.
I call bullshit.
First, boys are born biologically and genetically more muscular and with more stature (generally) than girls.
Girls are more physically attractive than boys. Do we feel oppressed by that? We could. In our society, women regularly flaunt, and even capitalize their sexuality. Do I feel oppressed by that? I could call myself a TERM- Trans-Exclusionary Radical Masculinist. But I really want to get along with women. I think it’s oppressive to be labeled as an oppressor because of something I was born with genetically. Seriously, that’s whacked.
The term toxic masculinity is a coercive term that encourages men or boys to embrace the sixth DSM-5 marker for gender dysphoria, which reads: “In boys (assigned gender) a strong rejection of typically masculine toys, games, and activities, and a strong avoidance of rough-and-tumble play”.
The promulgation of the term “Toxic Masculinity” is in fact, regarding all men as disabled, because of coercively suggesting that men embrace some or all of the #6 gender dysphoria markers in the DSM-5, to wit “typically masculine toys, games, and activities, and a strong avoidance of rough-and-tumble play” The term “typically masculine… activities” is a pandora’s box that most any TERF can open, pull out a random masculine trait, and allege “toxic masculinity” or “misogyny”. Funny that people who use misogny as a standing point, and who usually co-assign that with a demand for equal rights, never seem worry about misandry, which would also be a part of the “equal rights”.
It all goes back to the variable of inclusion is collaborative, but assigning irredeemable qualities to something, and then demanding changes from that something looks a whole lot like schizophrenia…
Then there is the dynamic that because TERFs admit that men are physically stronger, and this is why they feel oppressed or victims of misogyny generally, that men should not further exert any rebuttal or defense against these preposterous positions. I mean, come on, to respond would be asserting even a measure of strength, and that is what they are already asserting - Your strength is a problem for them, so shut up…
Again, I call bullshit.
I would also point out that this is a form of what could be diagnosed (by a professional, not me) as Munchausen By Proxy or Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another, because of the implication that there is something inherently wrong with masculinity (typically masculine activities) by aligning the term “masculine” with toxicity, proceeding to loudly scream this, without balancing out any of the positive qualities (in the TERF expression) of masculinity.
TERFs, and their sympathizers, at least to my observation, are not praising any quality of masculinity, but rather only pointing out what they consider “toxic”. This is unbalanced and discriminatory.
All men are regarded as disabled, by the term “toxic masculinity” because it coercively suggests (using accusation trauma) that masculinity is toxic. That, by the process of operation shuts (most) men down from responding, which is, to the observant, weakening men by the very issuance of the term “toxic masculinity.” It’s an accusation, and causes the mental impairment of not being able to communicate a response, and substantially limits the major life activity of interacting with others.
By the way, coercion and intimidation are prohibited acts under the ADA, in relation to the enjoyment and exercise of ADA rights (which include equal access on the basis of disability).
It’s time to stop discriminating against men so that a few TERFs can feel better about themselves. Ironically, they are displaying the very “toxic” quality that they claim of “overpowering”.
